Our History

St. Jude the Apostle Parish was established in 2008 as a community of faith, based on the merging of various other Roman Catholic communities of North Tonawanda, New York.

Our parish currently has over 3,200 families, over 500 Religious Education students, and serves the needs of countless individuals from the Tonawanda's and surrounding communities in both Erie and Niagara Counties.

Our mission is to reach out as a Christ-centered faith community to people of all ages and walks of life and to embrace all people, rich and poor, especially those who suffer from difficult personal circumstances.

St. Jude Parish promotes wholesome values to hundreds of children, adults and families, encouraging good citizenship, responsibility, honor, and the dignity of all human persons at every stage of life, from conception to natural death.

Our Patron Saint

One of the twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is also called Thaddaeus, Jude of James, Jude Thaddaeus, Judas Thaddaeus or Lebbaeus. He is usually depicted carrying the image of Jesus in his hand or close to his chest. He is also often depicted with a flame above his head, denoting his presence at Pentecost, where he received the Holy Spirit along with the other apostles.

Because Jude and Judas are translations of the same Greek name, which is a variant of Judah and a name common among Jews of the time, he is often confused with Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of Jesus.

Known as the patron saint of "lost causes" or "desperate situations", he is also the patron saint of Armenia, the City of St. Petersburg Florida, and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis Tennessee.

Born: 1st century AD, Galilee, Palestine
